Other Stromboli web sites

Stromboli volcano is featured on a number of excellent web sites, which surpass this one by far, although "Italy's Volcanoes" originally started as a site focused mainly on Stromboli. The most important are listed below.

Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia - Sezione di Catania

Much of the geophysical and visual monitoring of Stromboli as well as basic research are being carried out in the framework of this structure. A special page is dedicated to the major 2002-2003 eruption of the volcano and provides daily updates even with the activity having returned to more or less normal levels. The live-cam that previously transmitted real-time images of the eruptive activity was destroyed by the powerful explosion of 5 April 2003; it is planned to install several (not only one) new monitoring cameras in the near future.

Stromboli On-line

Fully re-designed in October-November 2002, this is an incredibly rich resource with photos and awesome video clips. It contains a vast amount of information regarding Stromboli volcano, its history, activity, and people. Among the highlights are the photo pages, mostly with photography by genius Marco Fulle.

Tom Pfeiffer's "Decadevolcano.com

A good friend of (and therefore not in competition with) Marco Fulle's and myself, Tom Pfeiffer has developed his own artistic capacities in photography and created dramatic portraits of the recent activity of Stromboli, including the 2002-2003 eruption.

Alain Melchior's Stromboli pages

Alain Melchior has worked a lot on Stromboli and developed numerous spectacular 3-D models of the volcano. On his web site he presents numerous photographs of the 2002-2003 eruption, including rare shots not available elsewhere.

"From Etna to Stromboli" by Thorsten Boeckel

One of the newly emerged masters of volcano photography (especially in the case of Mount Etna), Thorsten Boeckel has his own Stromboli photo galleries, but did not manage to visit the volcano during the 2002-2003 eruption (his photographs of the concurring eruption of Etna do make up for this).

Sergio Ballarò's Stromboli web site

Sergio Ballarò, part time resident on the island of Stromboli, has compiled a lot of information on the 2002-2003 eruption of the volcano, including exceptional photographs of the enormous explosion of 5 April 2003.

The Stromboli pages of the Global Volcanism Network

Fully re-designed in the summer of 2002, with a complete list of eruptions and eruption parameters, and reports published in the Bulletin of the Global Volcanism Network.
